Bow Torque/Lateral Nock Travel Test Results

I hope all who view these bow torque tests have viewed the videos Introduction to Bow Torque Test I & II. The objective is that archers will understand the bow torque test results they are viewing and then make informed decisions about that bow. The other objective is to encourage those bow manufacturers whose results are not so great to engineer real improvements, better bows make better archers.

The Results of our Bow Torque Tests

When the bows are tested I try and level the playing field by having all the bows set the same, ideally my tests are done at 28″ DL x 60#. Sometimes the bows DL may be greater and is so noted, but they are all adjusted to 60#.

I have compiled a list of Bow Torque results on a table, which will be updated as time permits. The list will show total bow generated torque, as measured from the plumb reference line at full draw.

Keep in mind that how the laser pointer torque tracks the plumb line is a strong indication of the path the nock’s travels upon release. If it is fairly straight the arrow launch will be true, a bow that shows allot of torque movement at the end on draw indicates an arrow launch that will induce more “fishtailing” at release. There will be more work to stabilize that arrows flight.

The table indicates the magnitude of torque at full draw. To see how that path actually tracks you must view the individual video.

If the bow is not listed on the table then look at the “Bow Torque Test Results” list below for the most recent tests.

Video Results of our Compound Bow Torque Tests

The videos were all done in my garage soon after the bows release (usually it’s real cold here in CT at that time) This year the future tests will be accomplished at the Newbury Archery, Goshen CT practice range (heated). Many thanks to pro shop owner Barry Hall.

NEW…On some bows I will also include a test of that bow with the cable offset device disabled to demonstrate the effect of that device on bow torque. Again, this will hopefully encourage some bow manufactures to improve their bow design.

2015 Bow Torque Test Results

Summary

These tests are done with the objective of informing archers what the bow is doing with regard to bow generated torque, an informed archer is a better archer. The tests are not supported by any bow company, they are done independently by myself, what you see on the videos is not altered…. no fake news.

Thanks,

Joe Marzullo
