Bowtech’s TimeLock Timing Technology

timelock bowtechTiming and sync are very important aspects of compound bow tuning. We refer to “timing” as the orientation of a bow’s cams at brace and use the term “sync” to describe when the draw stops are hitting the cables or limbs.

As discussed in the Bow Shop Bible app, we want to start off with the bow’s cams timed properly at brace according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. There may be timing marks the bow technician can reference when setting the initial timing or orientation of the cams. This is a starting point. Once timed perfectly, we must now check to see if the cams are in sync.

If the cams’ stops are not hitting the cables or limbs at the same time, we normally would have to press the bow and add or subtract a twist or two to the cables… not anymore. With Bowtech’s Deadlock Timing technology, you can tweak the length of the bow’s cable(s) with our pressing the bow or twisting the cable(s).

  • Check the sync of your bow with the use of a draw board or a friend who can watch to see when your draw stops are hitting the cables.
  • Make a note of which stop is hitting the cable first.
  • On the early hitting cam, loosen the Deadlock Timing mechanism’s set screw and tighten the adjustment screw to shorten the cable. Use the hashmarks to gauge your adjustment.
  • Recheck your sync and repeat the adjustment until perfect sync is achieved. How Much Adjustment Does TimeLock Give Us?

In the following video, we go over TimeLock and show you the finite distance a half-twist of a cable moves the draw stop. When adjusting your sync, the old method was pressing the bow and twisting or untwisting the cables until we were as close to in sync as possible. Sometimes you would get lucky and have it land perfectly (like in our video) but other times, it would over rotate the cam. With TimeLock, there isn’t a set distance adjustment that you are dealing with. Simply get the sync perfect and start shooting!
