Everett Shaw of Brazil, Indiana has been making what may be the toughest field point target on the market for over 30 years. His unique targets are a combination of a monofilament screening outer skin, a wood frame, and a combination of fill that includes fine metal screening and foam. The finished product is a field point target that, although heavy, will last a lifetime for the average archer.
One of the many things I really like about Solid Rock Targets is that they provide a two finger arrow pull once broke in. Even when they are brand new, arrow removal requires far less force in comparison to layered foam targets like Block targets or solid core targets like Rinehart Targets. Another great option is the ordering of custom sizes. Because every target is made by Everett at his shop, he is able to make any target size needed.
Due to the weight of the targets, they are offered as pick up only. Everett will, in cases involved a high volume order, personally ship them himself for a fee. Solid Rock Targets is currently looking up possible shipping solutions and online purchasing for 2023.
Here is a great story from Everett himself regarding his targets.
Let me tell you a True story.About 5 years ago, I met the the owner of Ravin Crossbows, Doug Guthrie, at the ATA Show. I convinced him to take a couple of shots into our 4’x4’x18″ thick Indoor Range Target. He was very impressed, to say the least. He ended up taking that target back to the Ravin factory so his employees could test every crossbow by shooting at our target. I had never shot a Ravin crossbow before. I was so confident in this target, I told him that it would last several years…. He looked at me with a big grin, then loaded up the target and headed back to Superior, Wisconsin.I couldn’t shake that grin, like it was imbedded in my brain…..FOUR MONTHS LATER…..Doug, called me and said that they needed another target and that it was all shot up. That’s when I realized what that grin was actually saying to me. “You really don’t know the power of a Ravin.”Doug could tell that I was upset that my flagship target had finally been defeated after 26 years of making them. That’s when Doug made me feel better. He told me that they had been shooting at every target that was on the market in their factory. He told me that there had only been one target that lasted longer than all the other targets. And it only lasted one month. That Solid Rock Target lasted Four months. That’s 4 to 1, he was very happy to get that performance. So, I sold targets to them every 4 months. Then, in August of 2021, they ordered more, but asked if I would make them 2 feet wide and 4 feet tall. The 4x4x18 weight roughly 350 lbs. They just wanted a target that was easier to move around. Obviously, I said sure. When I started making them, I decided to make them 24″ square x 4′ tall. That way, they got a smaller target that had the same shooting surface as the 4x4x18. Then, four months went by, no phone call. Eight months, no phone call. Finally, I got the call for more. They lasted a full year….Now, I am definitely not here to slam the other targets. Even though I don’t shoot into other targets, I do know, that they are all way better than they used to be. They, and Solid Rock Targets have to constantly improve just to keep up with arrows flying over 500 fps.. That’s an entirely different conversation… Earlier today, I put an idea together, and now, I am introducing our new target. The Boulder…It measures 24″x42″x 24″. I haven’t weighed it yet, but I’m guessing 150lbs. Give or take. Best of all, you can shoot all six sides.I’m going to retail it , through the end of this year, for $200.00. I can ship it through UPS, but I need to let everyone know that our targets are not cheap to ship. You are more than welcome to come here and pick it up.
